Grandfather’s Eyeglasses
Jack was raised by his grandfather. His parents died in a car accident making him an orphan at the age of three. Lolo Delfin, his grandfather, a typical doting grandparent raised Jack with classic devotion and unconditional love. The old man personally took care of Jack and made sure that the young lad was given proper education.
When Jack graduated from high school, Lolo Delfin sold half of his land so that Jack could go to college. When warned that he might regret his decision, the old man just shrugged his shoulders and said..
“I love my grandson. He is worth more than a hundred acres of land. Besides, I couldn’t take this land when I die, could I?”
Jack was so grateful to his grandfather that he asked Lolo Delfin what the old man wanted to have when he graduate from college and get a good job. The old man simply smiled and said..
“Just get me a new pair of glasses. These ones are so old, they are no longer good to use..”
So, when Jack graduated from college and had his first job, he took Lolo Delfin to an ophthalmologist and got him a new pair of glasses. How proud Lolo Delfin was of both his grandson and his new glasses.
Since then, Jack started giving Lolo Delfin something. He bought back the land his grandfather sold to send him to college. He even took Lolo Delfin out of the country for a few day’s vacation. The old man was so happy he could only nod his head and touch his glasses.
One time, Jack asked his grandfather which among his gifts he likes the most. Lolo Delfin answered instantly..
“My glasses..”
Jack was confused. The glasses only cost P2000, way cheaper than the pick-up truck he gave Lolo Delfin last Christmas. But the old man continued..
“Because this is the only thing I ever wanted, a good pair of glasses, and this was the only thing I asked from you. The rest.. you gave them voluntarily..
After a few years, Lolo Delfin died. He left all of his properties to his beloved grandson, Jack. But Jack sold all of them except for one item and donated all the money to charity.
Jack kept his grandfather’s glasses. And when he’s faced with a difficult situation, he thinks of his grandfather , who raised him devotedly and loved him unconditionally, and how the old man made the decision that shaped him into the person he is today..

This is a very touching story.
i cry reading this story. i remembered my dad, his eyeglasses were the only stuff I kept dearly. And, it cost a few hundred pesos only.
what a nice story..very touching..
The grandfather of Jack was a man of principle who loved his grandson unconditionally. Jack responded by finishing college and gifting his grandpa with his cherished eyeglasses. That the grandfather considered it as the most precious of Jack’s gifts to him was in consonance with his principles. Thanks for the post. God bless you always.
